Our March Get Together will have a special guest. Dr. Ron Fleming is a Professor Emeritus of Nuclear Engineering & Radiological Sciences. He will be speaking with us about nuclear energy. Not only will he be speaking about current nuclear technology, he will also tell us about Molten Salt (Thorium) Reactors which have been buzzing around the Internet lately.
Physorg.com is reporting on an online posting in the Nature Genetics journal that Alan Turing’s 1952 theory of Morphogenesis. The study, funded by the Medical Research Council and to be published online in Nature Genetics, not only demonstrates a mechanism which is likely to be widely relevant in vertebrate development, but also provides confidence that chemicals called morphogens, which control these patterns, can be used in regenerative medicine to differentiate stem cells into tissue.
Darwin Day falls on February 12th. Which is also Abraham Lincoln’s birthday. But we decided to celebrate Darwin.
For our second annual Darwin Day, we have a lot of things planned. We’ve got a presentation, possibly a video and our Games Master has a new game that everyone can participate in!
This month for out MISkeptics Get Together we are doing a tribute to Hitch. We’ll be watching a debate between him and an apologist and (assuming the damn DVD ever gets shipped to me) a tribute hosted my Stephan Fry.
This month we have a special treat. Friend of MISkeptics and all around awesome person Jo Randall is coming in to town to share her music, wit, art and her experiences on being a freethinker in an tiny little town on the red side of the state.
Our monthly Get together is not going to be held this month. There is small scheduling conflict. Richard Dawkins is going to be in town on tour for his new book, The Magic of Reality: How We Know What’s Really True. I just can’t compete with that…

Our monthly Get Together is coming up! We’re meeting on Saturday, August 13th at 4:00 PM. We’re located in the back room of Ginger Restaurant. This month our guest is Arlene-Marie. Arlene is the Michigan State Director, American Atheists and Affiliate Director Michigan Atheists. She has been with the organization as an Atheist activist for over forty years.
This Saturday, July 9th will be our Monthly Get Together.
It’s also our one year anniversary! It’s hard to believe we’ve been doing this for a year now. Over the past year we’ve had quite a few amazing guests come out and give some pretty amazing presentations.
Come and join us for lively discussion, drinks, dinner and debate! This is a good event for Skeptics of Michigan to come together and discuss local, national, worldwide items affecting skeptics. All are welcome to listen and participate.
