What unicorn?

In this episode, we talk with Tom and Kate Borninski of Camp Quest Michigan. A secular  summer camp for kids of freethinking families.

Camp Quest is the first residential summer camp in the history of the United States for the children of Atheists, Freethinkers, Secular Humanists, Humanists, Brights, or whatever other terms might be applied to those who hold to a naturalistic, not supernatural world view.

Ben Lillie

While the Drunken Skeptics remain on hiatus, Chris flexed his interview muscle and brought us an interview with Ben Lillie and Brian Wecht of Story Collider.

Ben Lillie is a high-energy particle physicist who left the ivory tower for the wilds of New York’s theater district. He now writes and performs stories about science and being a scientist, and is a Moth StorySLAM champion. He also writes for TED.com, and likes to say that life is different now, largely because it is.

Brian Wecht is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Michigan, where he works on theoretical particle physics and string theory. Additionally, he is half of the musical sketch duo Ninja Sex Party, in which he wears a ninja costume, remains silent, and plays the piano.

The Story Collider project aims to tell stories of how science interacts with out everyday lives. These stories are told by everyday people that share their happenings through monthly live shows, the Story Collider Podcast, or by the Pictures of Science endeavor.

The stories are always fascinating whether they are funny or sad or indifferent. I highly suggest you listen to the podcast or try to attend one of their live events. They are currently touring and meeting up with local story tellers.

While the Drunken Skeptics podcast is on hiatus, Chris got to talk with Dr. Robert M Price (Point of Inquiry, The Bible Geek) about something he’s particularly passionate about – the music and lyrics of Rush.  Dr. Price was a co-author, with his wife Carol Selby Price, on a book called “Mystic Rhythms: The Philosophical Vision of Rush.”

Robert M. Price is Professor of Biblical Criticism at the Center for Inquiry Institute as well as the editor of The Journal of Higher Criticism. His books include Beyond Born Again,  The Widow Traditions in Luke-Acts: A Feminist-Critical Scrutiny, Deconstructing Jesus, and The Incredible Shrinking Son of Man. Forthcoming titles are The Crisis of Biblical Authority, Jesus Christ Superstar: A Redactional Study of a Modern Gospel,  The Da Vinci Controversy and The Amazing Colossal Apostle.

So if you’re a fan of Rush, or even if you’re not,  you’ll certainly enjoy this conversation.

Well episode 6 is finally here for you!

Sorry it took so long, we had a bit of a meltdown at the MISkeptics command center / living room. We lost two computers due to a brown out.
