The September Get Together is This Saturday, the 10th, and this month we have a special treat. Our special guest will be James Kjellin, and he would like to talk to us about god.

No, Seriously...

James Kjellin is a 38 year old disabled soldier. He Served in the Army Infantry from 1993 to 1997 during Somalia and also in the Old Guard at Arlington Cemetery He has a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice. James has been a Christian since 1997, became a backslider for 2 years and returned to Christianity. He's been involved in just about every religion and studied philosophy.

He is coming to meet with us to present "proof of god" to us.

So be sure to read up on the creationist arguments. I want to be able to counter every "proof" they offer.

Come and join us for lively discussion, drinks, dinner and debate! This is a good event for Skeptics of Michigan to come together and discuss local, national, worldwide items affecting skeptics. All are welcome to listen and participate.

Please be sure to RSVP so I know how many are coming. That way I can modify the reservation if necessary. You can RSVP at our Meetup group and on our Facebook Event page.

I look forward to seeing you all there!

Hi, Adam. I posted this over on the Meetup page. Is our guest this month focusing on the existence of God primarily, or is he also a creationist? All creationists are theists, but not all theists are creationists. Which camp does Mr. Kjellin belong to?

We're having the October Get Together on the third Saturday. This one is second Saturday as usual. The reason we're delaying a week next month is because Chris Lindsay's Ann Arbor Science and Skeptics meetup has a guest that could not reschedule. I highly recommend attending that one btw.

I honestly don't know if James is a creationist or not. I use the term as more of a tongue-in-cheek term than anything. I believe he's an "old Earth" creationist but I'm not entirely sure. We shall find out on Saturday

Thanks to everyone that came out last night to our Get Together. We had a crowd of about 28 people that came together to discuss and debate with the creationist guests. We talked for several hours. Our guest, James Kjellin, believes that they "Blew us away" with the "power of [their] testemony". Which wasn't the case exactly....

The main thing I was expecting was "proof of god", but all we got was three people witnessing to us. it was unfortunate but still a lively and fun discussion.

One thing that surprised me was that the topic of Evolution was never brought up. I doubt that we could have swayed each other on our separate stances but it still surprises me. the discussion remained philosophical and justification based which was just as fun.

Thanks again to everyone that showed up and to our three guests, James, Scott and Will!
